#2: Marvin Gaye, 1983
Marvin Gaye walked into the NBA All-Star Game and casually reinvented the national anthem. Sung over a drum machine with a smooth, sensual groove, his version felt intimate and rebellious, like he was letting the song breathe for the first time.

At first, players looked confused — then they started swaying. By the end, the crowd was locked in. Critics later called it revolutionary. The East beat the West 132–123, but Marvin’s anthem outlived the game entirely.
