#9: Barbie Mania – “Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy” – Season 5, Episode 14 (1994)
Lisa takes on the world of dolls when she discovers Malibu Stacy’s new talking version spouts vapid, sexist nonsense like “Don’t ask me, I’m just a girl.” Her outrage leads to the creation of a more empowering alternative. At the time, it mocked consumer culture and gender stereotypes.

But fast forward to 2023, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie tackled many of the same issues head-on—misogyny, corporate feminism, and the existential confusion of a plastic identity. What Lisa demanded, the film delivered decades later. Once dismissed as kid stuff, doll discourse evolved into mainstream feminist commentary, just like Lisa wanted.
